So yesterday we looked at this apartment in Culver City and really liked the place. I called the landlady and asked about filling out an application. She told me she'd fax it and I told her that I'd call her in about 20 minutes with the fax number. She also told me to give the lady showing us the place a check for $23 to run a credit report and asked me about my credit.
I told her that I had bad credit but my wife's one is good; my rental credit is really great. She said, "That's okay, I'll just check your wife's one then."
I tell her awesome and write the check and give it to the lady. I get to work and call her and give her the fax number. She sends it to me and we fill it out and fax it back.
She calls me back to tell me that she's going to run the credit check and get all that taken care of that night so that today we could meet her and all that jazz. She also asks if Jeanne or I have any judgements against us, so I tell her no because we don't. So we go to (and the only reason we went here is because it's the only place with wireless internet. Seriously, no other coffee shop or anyplace like that has wireless. We ended up not using it, because they have T-mobile and you have to subscribe just like a regular internet service.) Starbucks and she calls me and asks why I lied to her. And I say, "What?"
"I told you that if you have any judgements against you, let me know now so I don't wasted my time checking it out. And you have bad credit."
"I told you that I had bad credit and you said that you'd just check my wife's one."
"I didn't say that. I check both of yours and now I'm out $23."
"I'll give you the $23, but why would I make something like that up? You told me that, and you knew there were two of us moving in and told me that it's $23. If you knew that it costs $23 per person and knew that two of us were moving in and you were going to do credit checks on both of us, then why did you tell me only $23? It doesn't make sense. And why would I lie about my credit when I know for a fact it's bad and I knew you were going to check it?"
It just went on and on and then finally I just repeated the aforementioned statement and added, "...so based on the fact that I told you that I have bad credit and you said that you'd just check my wife's credit, I didn't lie, so I don't know what you're talking about. That's you're fucking fault, so FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!" And I hung up.
I might add that she was lecturing about my bad credit like a mother or something which irritated me more. And I told her that rent credit and credit card credit is not the same and she said, "It is. You walked away from a debt."
I don't why, but I explained the reason for my debt, though it's none of her business. And I told her to call my previous landlords and ask them, I've never missed rent or was late on it.
